Does that sound familiar? If you like Indie rock, you will find the genre loaded with artists and band contribution to the depression. There are pearls in between the swine – but the vast majority of bands and artists in the “whimprock” space are quite frankly depressively dead boring.

One of pearls and a great exception is the San Diego outfit the Black Heart Procession (1997-present). They’ve been described as a beautifully bleak and brooding indie rock with a dark side. To me, that description makes perfect sense as they wallow in isolation, depression and heartache.

The above lyrics are taken from the song (“It’s a crime I never told you about the diamonds in your eyes “) off the album “2”. Yes, they really did that… “1”, “2”, “Three”… ). The Blackheart Procession has released 9 full length albums all within the realms of isolation, depression and heartache, I have to admit that the first five albums are my favorites:

The band was formed in 1997 by Pall Jenkins (member of Mr. Tube and the Flying Objects, Pallllap, Ugly Casanova) and Tobias Nathaniel (both members of the band Three Mile Pilot).

Another of my favorite songs of the band is “The letter”, off the album “The Spell” (2006);
